What we achieve
The innovation of the project lies in the integration of available tools from past successful projects – INCIRCLE project (Interreg MED 14/20) and REBOOT MED (EMFAF) – into action plans which will include solutions towards a blue and circular tourism model related, among others, to waste and water management issues, and will be adapted to the receiving destinations participating in the project.
The core project activities are organized into three phases (also known as Work Packages) as follows:
Phase 1. Design, dedicated to the integration of tools, and the development of the RECIRCLE MED Blueprint, the design of the transferring methodology and the identification and mobilization of the relevant stakeholders.
Phase 2. Transfer, dedicated to the adaptation and implementation of the Blueprint at the receiving destinations, with the aim to create Blue Action Plans for Circular Tourism, and engage appropriate stakeholders in awareness raising and training.
Phase 3. Offset, aiming to enhance the visibility of the transferring outcomes and promote the political externalities of the project and its objectives.
All project activities will be addressing the challenges that arise in the case of coastal tourism destinations when transitioning to a blue and circular tourism model.
In addition, the project aims at promoting synergies with and engage in its activities important actors of the Mediterranean who address the common challenges towards supporting blue and circular tourism in coastal destinations and enhancing the path towards sustainability.
expected results

By completing all activities in the project, RECIRCLE MED will have achieved the following key objectives:
- Integration of knowledge and solutions of past projects into one single product and facilitate its transferring to other coastal destinations in the Mediterranean region.
- Transferring of available tools, which foster sustainability in coastal tourism destinations, to other territories and facilitate their incorporation into their activities, policies and strategies at different levels.
- Upscale of the transferred knowledge and results to promote their incorporation into political, national, and European frameworks, across different spatial levels, ensuring long-term sustainability and replicability.
