RECIRCLE MED at the Għajn Open Weekend, Rabat, MALTA

30/09/2025

RECIRCLE MED participated in the  Għajn Open Weekend 2025 at the National Water Conservation Awareness Centre in Malta, organised by the Energy and Water Agency, on 13–14 September 2025.

During this interactive event, visitors explored a wide range of sustainability initiatives, including RECIRCLE MED, and learned how the circular economy (focused on reusing and reducing resources) connects with the blue economy (protecting coastal and marine environments).

The event also highlighted how nature-based solutions, stakeholder collaboration, and digital tools can support more resilient and sustainable tourism models, particularly in small coastal destinations across the Mediterranean.

The 6th edition of the Għajn Open Weekend took place at the Għajn National Water Conservation Awareness Centre in Rabat, offering family-friendly activities, educational exhibits, and hands-on experiences focused on water conservation, culture, and environmental awareness.

It was inspiring to connect with over 700 visitors, exchange ideas, and raise awareness about the importance of sustainable coastal tourism—an especially relevant topic for the Maltese Islands. The event provided a valuable opportunity to engage directly with local communities, strengthen outreach efforts, and promote the project’s vision of a more circular and environmentally responsible tourism sector in the Mediterranean.
