30/09/2026

On 18th September 2026, the RECIRCLE MED project successfully organized its Local Capacity Building Workshop in Cefalu (Italy) bringing together local stakeholders and representatives of the local institutions to strengthen capacities for the implementation of blue and circular tourism.

Hosted at the Council Chamber of the Municipality of Cefalù at Piazza Duomo, Cefalù, the workshop aimed to build the knowledge and skills of key stakeholders to enable the successful implementation and future transfer of RECIRCLE MED’s blue and circular tourism approach, tailoring it to the specific needs of local stakeholders and focused on strengthening capacities related to the adaptation of the Blueprint and the implementation of the local Action Plans.

The first session of the capacity building workshop was focused on the integration of the circular and blue economies into tourism by firstly, identifying the key barriers to the implementation of Blue and Circular Tourism in their territory and develop practical ways to overcome it and in the end and secondly by developing the vision for the area following the implementation of the key principles.

The second session was more focused on the implementation of the Blueprint in Cefalù and mostly on identifying the measures Cefalù should undertake for moving forward to have a circular and blue tourism model.

The local stakeholders worked together to share their views and experiences and shaped the future of tourism in the area.

The Local Capacity Building Workshop held in Cefalù demonstrated how local knowledge and expertise and participatory planning can work supplementarily to support the transition towards more sustainable tourism destinations.

Through activities such as this workshop, RECIRCLE MED continues to empower local communities and tourism stakeholders to build more resilient, inclusive and sustainable tourism models, fostering collaboration, knowledge sharing and innovative approaches.
