RECIRCLE MED proudly participated in the MED Sustainable Tourism Convention 2026, held in Barcelona on 18–19 June 2026. The event brought together more than 250 participants from across the Mediterranean region, including policymakers, tourism authorities, researchers, project partners, and representatives of Interreg Euro-MED initiatives, all united by a common objective: advancing the transition towards more sustainable tourism models.
Organised under the theme “Tourism Transition in the Mediterranean,” the Convention served as a dynamic platform for dialogue, collaboration, and knowledge exchange. Participants explored innovative approaches, policy developments, and practical solutions to address the environmental, social, and economic challenges facing Mediterranean tourism destinations.

RECIRCLE MED actively participated in the event, engaging in discussions on how circular economy principles can contribute to building more resilient and resource-efficient coastal destinations. More specifically, Ms Julia Bonello from EWA, presented the project in the circular economy transition panel.

The Convention provided an excellent opportunity to showcase the project’s objectives, exchange experiences with other initiatives, and identify opportunities for future collaboration across the Mediterranean. In this framework, Ms Tonia Koutsopoulou provided an interview for RECIRCLE MED.

Participation in the Convention also enabled RECIRCLE MED partners to connect with representatives from other Interreg Euro-MED projects and key actors of the Community4Tourism, reinforcing synergies and promoting the exchange of best practices that can be transferred and replicated across Mediterranean regions.
The MED Sustainable Tourism Convention 2026 reaffirmed the growing commitment of Mediterranean stakeholders to shaping a tourism model that balances economic growth with environmental protection and social well-being. RECIRCLE MED is proud to contribute to this collective effort and remains committed to supporting destinations on their journey towards a more circular, resilient, and sustainable future.
We would like to thank the organisers, partners, and participants for creating such a valuable space for collaboration and innovation. We look forward to continuing our work together to drive positive change across Mediterranean tourism destinations.
